Eating Disorders

Dr. Katz has specialized in the treatment of eating disorders since 1995. Her treatment approach is integrative, with a strong focus on cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic (relational) models. Through this approach both the symptoms of disordered eating and the factors that maintain them can be adequately addressed.  The therapy work is a collaborative process that takes place in a warm and supportive atmosphere, where the patient is encouraged to take positive action toward recovery. Given the complex nature of the illness, treatment must be individualized to increase motivation and create change.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness training are incorporated into the work; developing more effective coping skills and learning to manage intense feelings are an important part of recovery from eating disorders and other self-destructive behaviors.

Dr. Katz works closely with parents and families of those suffering from eating disorders providing psycho-education, support, and family therapy.

Over the years, Dr. Katz has developed a strong network of medical professionals (including nutritionists, psychiatrists, and internists) with whom to collaborate in order to provide a multidisciplinary approach.

Dr. Katz treats a full range of eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia, compulsive exercising, binge eating, night eating syndrome, obesity, body dysmorphic disorder, and laxative abuse.
